The National Institue for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) have issued their first guidelines for the treatment of headaches. The guidelines tell Doctors in England and Wales to advise sufferers to stop taking all pain relief immediately. The guidelines also include a recommendation for acupuncture in patients susceptible to migraine and tension headaches.
This is great news for me as an acupuncturist as well as for the estimated million people in the UK who suffer from ‘completely preventable’ severe headaches caused by taking too many pain killers.

Earlier this year I completed some specialist acupuncture training in the treatment of eye disorders. The results I witnessed on the course were astonishing. For example, I witnessed a lady with myopia read two lines lower on the eye chart after having had 3 needles inserted into her knee just 5 minutes earlier! Although this result is impressive, myopia is not a condition that is regularly treated with this technique – it can’t promise perfect vision, so the best that could be expected is that you would have to buy a new pair of glasses! However if you are losing your sight, this improvement may be significantly life-enhancing.
Amazingly, pilot studies of this technique have shown that 80% of patients diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) show a 15-40% improvement in their vision. Results are also impressive for eye conditions such as glaucoma, tunnel vision and blindness caused through trauma. I want to see if I can get the same results over here in the UK.
If you have an eye disorder and want to be one of the first to give this new treatment a try, give me a call. Success would be a win-win for both of us.
